Valentines crafting and decorating!

Well, valentines days is right around the corner and let me just start off by saying I enjoy this day purely because I get to make everything heart shaped. Cookies, pancakes, cakes, toast and anything else I can get my heart shaped cutter on! This past weekend Caidan and I whipped up a batch of valentines cookies. Instead of making the sugar cookies from scratch I decided to take the easy route and use the Betty Crocker mix. That allowed me more time to spend making the icing and decorating them!

Guess what else we've been doing? That's right, decorating the house in all things hearts and valentines! I ordered this adorable blanket from Karen at bubby blankets on etsy. She is wonderful and does custom orders for me because I'm a nut and wanted this specific fabric!

Garlands have become a necessary part of my decorating. I think they are so fun and playful and come in all kinds of designs and textures! I got this one at target!

And this one from yellow bird yellow beard!

Bath and body works have the most amazing candles and as soon as I found out they had a red velvet flavor I couldn't scoop it up fast enough!

Don't forget that decorating your house for valentines day doesn't have to be complicated. Just do what makes you happy! Like red heart shaped baby feet!

I love the dollar spot at target and I'm always sifting through it to see what goodies I can find. Turns out I found some amazing stuff for the boys valentines baskets! And these adorable baskets were a must!

And finally, guess who's 6 months! Yep, this little man!

Super Bowl!!!!!

Well, my dreams came true. Peyton Manning and the Broncos are head to the Super Bowl to face the not so classy Seattle Seahawks. I have confidence that we will pull through for the win! Here are some photos from the weekend as we celebrated! My mother in law was in town and got to share this exciting moment with us!

Little B was all orange and blued out for the game!

It's cool mom, I'll just hang out on the pool table....

Poor Tom......

Aaron and his brother got matching shirts not on purpose, but I had to capture this adorable moment!

We also did some shopping and Brantley got hooked up! Holy smokes! Thanks Mimi!

And we went to lunch....

And finally we went to the salon together!

And guess who's business cards arrived the other day! Yes! I am officially official! I cannot wait to embark on this new adventure!

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! And GO BRONCOS!!!! Here we go!

Baby food and other things

After weeks of procrastinating I finally broke down and dedicated one day to making baby food. Let me just preface this post by saying that I was overwhelmed and doubtful with the idea of making my own baby food. I didn't think I had the time or patience to do it. But after reading a few articles on baby center's website and looking at some pins on Pinterest, I decided that I could do it and boy was I right! It was probably the easiest thing to do next to making Mac and cheese. Time consuming. But soooo easy! I ended up making 180 servings for under 10 dollars, which translates to about 3 months worth of food and 5 cents per serving. Just to give you an idea, on average, one jar is about 90 cents to 1 dollar. Are you kidding me? That would mean that in 3 months I would have spent about 162 dollars! Whoa, that's silly. I'll take the 10 dollar route. Plus, with my husband being the only one working right now (I just started my interior design business in November of 2013) it helps to save money when we can, and it's better for your kids! It's a no brainier! Anyways enough about that rant, here's how I made some of the things.

First, you want to buy organic. Yes, it's more expensive but you are saving so much money anyways, get the good stuff! Plus, if you have any farmers markets like sprouts, whole foods or Vitamin cottage you can usually find produce super cheap! Next I washed the crap out of everything. Even though I was peeling most everything you still want to give it a good wash because when you cut into the fruit or veggie it can allow bacteria in.

Every item is prepared slightly different but for the most part you are either steaming, boiling or cooking the item. Since Brantley is just under 6 months, there are certain foods that he cannot have yet so this post is just for the foods he can eat now, if your little one is older then you can customize your meals:) For apples, peaches and pears I boiled them till they were soft enough to put a fork through. Green beans and carrots, I steamed them. And for sweet potatoes I bakes them in the oven. You basically just want to get them soft enough so that when you put them in your blender or food processor, it doesn't have to work so hard:) You will need to add water to the foods to thin them out, you can use tap water or what's better is to use the liquid that the food was cooked in because it holds a lot of the nutrients that escaped using the cooking process.

Once the cooking and blending was done I let them cool. You don't want to pour the hot purée in the ice cube trays otherwise you will end up with a weird consistency once frozen. Once cooled, I poured them into ice cube trays. You can use breast milk storage bags but I found this method was the easiest.

Once they are frozen, pop them out and put them into ziploc bags with the name of the food and the date you made them!

And voila! You have a shit (pardon my language) ton of baby food that your baby will love!

In other news, Brantley has decided that he is going to roll over, hold his own bottle and sit up all in one week. Can you please slow down! I'm not ready to have a toddler:(

We spend most mornings staring at the dogs and smiling:)

Then we take naps....

Or simply just play in our crib....

Lately I have been in DIY mode and trying to save money on things I want but can't justify spending money on. I found a onesie online that I liked but they wanted 18 dollars for it! I made mine for 4:) I used a piece of iron on fabric transfer that i got from hobby lobby and cut my shape out ironed on!

Hope everyone is having a fantastic day! Oh and ps....GO BRONCOS!!!!

Julie Ann Designs!

As you may or may not know, I have my own Interior Design business that I launched late last year. I have been in the beginning stages of getting my website done, building a logo with a graphic designer and trying to network myself. After weeks of emails, I finally have my logo and my finished website!

And here is the link to my website!

Please check it out and if you are local in the Denver area, please think of me if you have any potential clients! I will post some of my design stuff to the blog but for the most part i'll keep this about my personal life. You can always follow me on Pinterest and Facebook for all my design projects!

Thanks for the support!

Things that make me smile

The first week of 2014 has been a cold one! Its been like -3 in the morning here in Colorado the last few days which has allowed us to stay inside, curled up by the fire and live in our PJ's all day. Brantley is unsure about the snow, he just stares at it out the window. Simple things like this make me smile!

You know what else makes me smile, making new wreaths for my door. I know, it seems silly but I always look at people's doors when B and I take walks and it always amazes me how many people don't do wreaths anymore. I decided that my January wreath needed to be pretty simple as I didn't want it to conflict with our other outdoor furniture. It was a simple burlap wreath that I just added a chevron bow to. Took about 30 minutes from start to finish!

Is anyone else excited for Valentines day? Um I have already started looking at Gap and Old Navy's sale stuff and not to mention PBK's adorable line of goodies for the kids! Here's some of my favs! I also love looking on ETSY to find the best local shops that have Valentines day stuff! Some of my favorite shops are yellow bird yellow beard, project paper, and Bubby Bear Blankets. They are always so nice and willing to customize things for you!

How adorable are the little chair envelopes! I must get them for the boys! What are some of the things you do for Valentines Day? Happy Tuesday! And just in case you're having a bad day.....

More

I absolutely love the idea of this interlinking of blogs that Little Baby Garvin posted about! What a great idea to share our New Years goals as I like to call them! I too am not a fan of resolutions, as I seem to set myself up for failure right away. I have every excuse in the book and I use them frequently. I like to have goals that can be reached, or words rather that can inspire me and motivate me.

My word of the year for 2014 is More.

Love More. Smile More. Laugh More. I seem to always be organizing and cleaning and putting things into order in my house, I think I do it so that I can somewhat keep my sanity. It drives my entire family nuts! I need to embrace the mess, do MORE snuggles with my boys while they are still at an age where they will let me. I need to tell my husband I love him MORE. I need to take walks MORE. I need to read to Brantley MORE and not worry about the 10 thousand loads of laundry I have to do. I need to cherish the small moments MORE. Life is way too short and this year I plan to slow down and do MORE but do LESS, if that makes any sense! I hope you all will set goals and not resolutions and just take each day one day at a time. Because life is not about each breath you take but the moments that take your breath away. Yes, that is right out of a George Strait song.

Go check out Jessica at Little Baby Garvin if you want to participate in this!

It's a New Year!

I am just getting around to posting about our new years. We stayed in like we did last year and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way! I hate crowds and the thought of being on the road with all the drunk people makes me scared. We watched all the recaps of 2013 and drank some wine and of course at midnight, popped the champs!

As I reflect on 2013 I know that there are things that I definitely want to improve on and things that I want to keep the same! I want to eat healthier and try to take walks more with Brantley.  I want to organize and de clutter I feel like it truly is out with the old and in with the new. I know there are pants that I will never fit into again and I just need to let them go! I'd love to get my business really ramped up this year and get moving on that! I will leave you with the photo that has melted my heart today!
